THE 10th ASIAN XIANGQI MASTERS INVITATION TOURNAMENT

Diễn ra tại Bà Rịa - Vũng Tàu từ 4 đến 10 tháng 8, gồm 18 nam và 6 nữ từ các nước China, HongKong, Taipei, Macau, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Myanmar, East-West Malaysia, Brunei, Australia, Vietnam
Nữ thi đấu vòng tròn 1 lượt, Nam thi đấu theo hệ Thụy sĩ 4 ván, sau đó 8 đấu thủ cao nhất sẽ đấu loại trực tiếp ở nhóm A, nhóm còn lại ở nhóm B. Nhóm A loại trực tiếp để chon 2 người cao nhất vào chung kết, người thua sẽ xuống thi đấu hệ Thụy sĩ với nhóm B để chọn 2 người cao nhất tranh 3, 4.

The Asian Xiangqi Masters Invitation Tournament is one of the main activities of AXF. The Vietname Chess Federation hosted the event from 3 August to 9 August 2001 at the southern fishing port Vungtau. The tournament site was on the 8th floor of the Palace Hotel. Eighteen players were competing in the men's division from China, HongKong, Taipei, Macau, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Myanmar, East-West Malaysia, Brunei, Australia and Vietnam
The competition was conducted in a 7-round hybrid system(A combination of Swiss and Knock-out).
(Note:Indonesia's player was absent because of visa problem. The hosting country provided a third player as substitution.)

Six players contested in a round robin system in the women's division
After four days of keen competition, China's Nie TieWen knocked out his mate with a fast game in the final round to claim the champion title of the men's division. Out of the seven rounds, he scored a remarkable 5 wins and 2 draws. In the women's campus, Zhao Guan Fang, the new master from China, defeated all her five opponents without much hurdle
